Does my car need to be smogged?
There are a few types of vehicles that are exempt from California smog check policy.

- Trailers
- Cars 6 years old or younger
- Cars made before 1976
If your vehicle doesn’t fit into any of those categories, you need to have a smog test conducted at least twice a year.
How does a smog check work?
Your smog test will be conducted in 3 parts:
First, mechanics will visually inspect the vehicle to make sure that all emissions control devices are installed and functioning. Second, they will check that the emissions warning light is working. Finally, the car is hooked up to a testing device to get an emission reading from the tailpipe.
